Bioinspired Polarization Sensors
May 27, 2015
We have designed an imaging sensor inspired by the visual system of mantis shrimp. These flamboyant creatures are capable of capturing 16 spectral channels and 6 polarization channels. We have mimicked the polarization sensing capabilities by combining metallic nano structures with an array of imaging elements. This bio-inspires polarization sensor can capture intensity and color information in high resolution (4 Mpixels) which has enabled many applications ranging from: early cancer detection in the gastric track to underwater imaging applications.
